CONCEPTUAL PLAN
The School Board and administration—with consultation from the School Bonding Advisory Committee—have identified $18.97 million worth of improvement projects that will allow West Marshall CSD to address its needs and provide stability for the district to continue successfully educating future generations.
The first project would result in the construction of a new $6.65 million career and technical education (CTE) addition that would link the middle school and high school. This plan would include:
- Approximately 10,850 sq. feet of space for 4-5 classrooms, storage, offices, and equipment.
-
Renovation to the existing Ag, Shop and Engineering space, which is approximately 6,050 sq. feet.
-
Up to 5,000 square feet of shell construction for 3-4 classrooms.
-
Site improvements to accommodate the CTE connection link.
Keeping students safe is a top priority. A new CTE wing that connects the middle school and high school would allow more than 300 students, staff members, and others to safely transition from each building every day.
The second project would be the construction a downtown elementary school addition to serve students in grades K-5, at an estimated cost of $12.32 million. This would provide West Marshall CSD with more than 30,600 square feet of new elementary space, with 20 classrooms.
Site improvements with an estimated cost of $750,000 would allow for the creation of a new pick-up and drop-off area, and parking. Under this plan, the existing building for grades 4-5 would be demolished for an estimated $200,000.
The district intends to use two funding sources to finance these projects. The largest portion would come from $14 million worth of voter-approved general obligations bonds that will be considered on November 5. The remainder of the proposal's budget would be addressed using revenue West Marshall CSD receives from the state one-cent sales tax fund known as Secure an Advanced Vision for Education (SAVE), which has no effect on local property taxes.
